Joely Richardson and Portia de Rossi in steamy scenes for Nip/Tuck
The steamy embrace between actresses Portia de Rossi and Joely Richardson in the forthcoming series of Nip/Tuck is bound to set pulses racing.
Yet playing a lesbian is a first for Portia. "I am a lesbian playing a lesbian" says the blonde actress, "But she's a different woman than I am, so the most surprising thing is how emotional it's been for me."
It's been three years since the leggy blonde went public about her relationship with Ellen de Generes and at first she worried she'd be typecast as a lesbian if she took the Nip/Tuck role.
"My relationship with Ellen is so public, and I thought, 'Am I going to play a romantic lead again?' I had that one moment of, 'Does this mean I'll be typecast as a lesbian?'" Portia said.
"And Ellen turned to me and said, 'So what?' And I thought, 'Oh, yeah, right, so what?'"
Yet there were no such reservations for co-star Joely.
Joely, 42, said: "I have no problems kissing women. It's not the first time I have done lesbian scenes.
"I have heard Ellen was jealous. She has been on set. She is great and Portia is lovely."
The actress added, "I think playing a lesbian turns men on. When my character Julia was the boring, married housewife, always chopping vegetables, people were sweet and lovely.
"But now I'm playing her as a sexy ***** with a big padded bra and a short skirt, I get a very different reaction.
"I think men respond to the sexiness of two women being together."

Essential Health Tips
"He who has health has hope, and he who has hope has everything." -Arabian Proverb
1. Move More
Make it a daily challenge to find ways to move your body. Climb stairs if given a choice between that and escalators or elevators. Walk your dog; chase your kids; toss balls with friends, mow the lawn. Anything that moves your limbs is not only a fitness tool, it's a stress buster. Think 'move' in small increments of time. It doesn't have to be an hour in the gym or a 45-minute aerobic dance class or tai chi or kickboxing. But that's great when you're up to it. Meanwhile, move more. Thought for the day: Cha, Cha, Cha…. Then do it!
2. Cut Fat
Avoid the obvious such as fried foods, burgers and other fatty meats (i.e. pork, bacon, ham, salami, ribs and sausage). Dairy products such as cheese, cottage cheese, milk and cream should be eaten in low fat versions. Nuts and sandwich meats, mayonnaise, margarine, butter and sauces should be eaten in limited amounts. Most are available in lower fat versions such as substitute butter, fat free cheeses and mayonnaise. Thought for the day: Lean, mean, fat-burning machine…. Then be one!
3. Quit Sm0king
The jury is definitely in on this verdict. Ever since 1960 when the Surgeon General announced that sm0king was harmful to your health, Americans have been reducing their use of t0bacco products that kill. Just recently, we've seen a surge in sm0king in adolescents and teens. Could it be the Hollywood influence? It seems the stars in every movie of late s0oke cig@rettes. Beware. Warn your children of the false romance or 'tough guy' stance of Hollywood sm0kers. Thought for the day: Give up just one cig@rette…. the next one.
4. Reduce Stress
Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like. (i.e.,Soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.
5. Protect Yourself from Pollution
If you can't live in a smog-free environment, at least avoid smoke-filled rooms, high traffic areas, breathing in highway fumes and exercising near busy thoroughfares. Exercise outside when the smog rating is low. Exercise indoors in air conditioning when air quality is good. Plant lots of shrubbery in your yard. It's a good pollution and dirt from the street deterrent. Thought for the day: 'Smoke gets in your eyes'…and your mouth, and your nose and your lungs as do pollutants….hum the tune daily.
6. Wear Your Seat Belt
Statistics show that seat belts add to longevity and help alleviate potential injuries in car crashes. Thought for the day: Buckle down and buckle up.
7. Floss Your Teeth
Recent studies make a direct connection between longevity and teeth flossing. Nobody knows exactly why. Perhaps it's because people who floss tend to be more health conscious than people who don't? Thought for the day: Floss and be your body's boss.
8. Avoid Excessive Drinking
While recent studies show a glass of wine or one drink a day (two for men) can help protect against heart disease, more than that can cause other health problems such as liver and kidney disease and cancer. Thought for the day: A jug of wine should last a long time.
9. Keep a Positive Mental Outlook
There's a definitive connection between living well and healthfully and having a cheerful outlook on life. Thought for the day: You can't be unhappy when you're smiling or singing.
10. Choose Your Parents Well
The link between genetics and health is a powerful one. But just because one or both of your parents died young in ill health doesn't mean you cannot counteract the genetic pool handed you. Thought for the day: Follow these basic tips for healthy living and you can better control your own destiny.

Witnesses tell how Anna Nicole Smith clung desperately to her dying son as inquest begins
Medical staff frantically tried to revive Anna Nicole Smith's son after he collapsed in September 2006 in the former Playboy playmate's hospital room, a doctor testified yesterday at the start of a coroner's inquest.
After a "Code Blue" alert was sounded, doctors, nurses and security guards crowded into the room and found Daniel Smith unconscious, not breathing and with no pulse, said Dr. James Iferenta, the emergency room doctor on duty at the time.
Iferenta said a woman, whom he later learned was Anna Nicole, was distraught and would not let go of her 20-year-old son.
"There was difficulty getting her out of the room," Iferenta said of Anna Nicole. "She clung to Smith during my time in the room."
Her attorney and partner, Howard K. Stern, who was present when Daniel Smith died, discussed the relationship between son and mother.
"She was very close to Danny and I saw it," he testified. "Almost every time I saw Anna Nicole, she had Danny with her."
Iferenta and Stern were among the first of about 35 witnesses expected to testify before a seven-member jury at an inquest to formally determine the cause death.
Daniel Smith died about five months before Anna Nicole herself collapsed and died in Florida.
Police have said there is no evidence of homicide in the death of Daniel Smith.
An autopsy found the likely cause was a combination of drugs, including methadone and antidepressants.
The jury can recommend authorities pursue criminal charges if it finds evidence of wrongdoing.
Daniel Smith had come to the Bahamas to visit his mother after the birth of her daughter, Dannielynn.
His death was the start of a celebrity soap opera that would soon engulf the island chain, where Anna Nicole Smith lived with Stern.
Anna Nicole's death on February 8 set off a fight over where to bury the former model and who would get custody of Dannielynn.
She was eventually buried to great fanfare in the Bahamas, next to Daniel, and custody of her daughter went to former boyfriend Larry Birkhead.
On Monday, Stern described identifying Daniel Smith's body at the morgue but did not discuss in detail the events that led up to his death.
The attorney general's office said Stern may be recalled as a witness for further questioning.
Stern is the executor of Anna Nicole Smith's estate and has filed papers to make Dannielynn the sole beneficiary of the estate, which has made a legal claim for millions from the oil fortune of the model's late husband, J. Howard Marshall II.
Testimony in the inquest is scheduled to resume Tuesday.

Gemma Atkinson: 'I've been dumped because boyfriends say I'm cold and unaffectionate
Glamour model Gemma Atkinson has admitted to being dumped a lot because boyfriends find her cold and unaffectionate.
The former Hollyoaks actress opened up to three of her fellow contestants while they were locked in a 4x4 with the doors and windows shut for last night's endurance test.
As the conversation between herself, John Burton Race, Katie Hopkins and Jason "J" Brown turned to boys needing lots of cuddles from women in their life, the 23-year-old former partner of Manchester United star Ronaldo said: "I'm told in every relationship that I'm not affectionate.
"I don't even put a kiss on a text message. I don't tell him what he means to me, although I feel it.
"I just struggle to show it with people and every single relationship I have been in has broken down for that reason."
When chef Burton Race assured her she wasn't cold, she added: "No, it's just I don't know how to express it. I don't want a guy who needs to be with me 24/7."
Meanwhile ex-Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson had said she would definitely be keeping her clothes on before she took to the jungle as an I'm a Celebrity contestant - but to the delight of ITV viewers she hasn't kept her word.
Before appearing on the ITV show, the actress claimed she wasn't averse to the idea of romance but would definitely be keeping her clothes on.
She said: "I see the show as a real personal challenge, but I plan to keep my clothes on. I'm not going naked, ever."
However, she has stripped off to her bikini numerous times since the show started.
Gemma has also taken the opportunity to show off her stunning body in a bid to re-enact the scene that made last year's runner-up Myleene Klass famous.
She left little to the imagination in her skimpy print bikini as she bathed in the freshwater creek near camp.
Gemma's bikini look was reminiscent of TV presenter Myleene who gained an army of fans - and viewer support - after she too regularly revealed her svelte physique in a white bikini on the popular reality show.
The 22-year-old had already showed off her toned body when she stripped off for Ultimo's D-G lingerie range.

Big kisses for Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw
Carrie Bradshaw has quite literally been swept off her feet by her on-off lover Mr Big during filming of the upcoming Sex and the City movie.
The pair, played by Sarah Jessica Parker and Chris Noth, were kissing passionately while shooting on the streets of New York.
The scenes are the latest in a host of dramatic moments, which include the couple's wedding - and a huge argument. Not all scenes will make it into the final movie.
As interest in the film reaches fever pitch, star Chris Noth says it's the only topic of conversation people want to discuss.
He told the New York Post: "Can't talk about Sex and the City. Everybody only wants to talk Sex and the City!"
He continued: "Bystanders text-message from our locations. Extras leak to the press what's shot. To keep the plot points secret, the show's filming false scenes and fake endings just to throw everybody off."
Noth has revealed how the fascination with the project is even taking over his other projects.
He explains: "You want to know about Sex and the City? I'm shooting outdoors in a bad neighbourhood in The Bronx for my other show, 'Law & Order.' We're tying up traffic. A held-up trucker behind me is crazed.
He tears through the light, halts our shoot and climbs out of his big 10-wheeler. I figure he'll pull a gun and shout: 'Get the f--- out of here you piece of s---,' and he rushes to me with, 'When you going to marry Carrie?'"
Meanwhile, Oscar winning actor Russell Crowe has revealed how he dreamed of landed a part in the popular series.
He has said: "I would have loved to do a guest [appearance] on 'Sex and the City.' That's my wife's favourite show."
"I would have loved a turn on an episode where my wife wasn't expecting me to be there. That would have been fun."
The movie is set to hit screens in next year.
