Katherine Jenkins and Joan Collins turn on the glamour

If singer Katherine Jenkins needs any pointers on how to maintain her poise in front of the cameras, she could do worse than ask an old pro like Joan Collins.

The 28-year-old Welsh singing sensation posed with the acting legend, 75, at the Montblanc Young Singers Project launch in Salzburg, Austria.

And for once she wasn't having wardrobe issues, as her gorgeous cream embroidered strapless gown stayed firmly in place.

But Joan wasn't letting Katherine have it all her own way, as she revealed her ample charms in a black figure-hugging dress and organza tie-front shirt.

With her typically immaculate make-up and chestnut brown hair, she looked 20 years younger than her age of 75.

Katherine hobnobbed with Percy and Joan at an event to promote jewellery and perfume brand Montblanc worldwide.

She said: 'It's so strange. Montblanc is such a massive brand globally.

'Sometimes I'll get off a plane and feel jet-lagged and sit in the back of a taxi and drive through the streets of a foreign city and see an enormous poster with this girl on it. And then I realise it's me!'

Katherine, 28, who now lives in north London, has been an 'ambassador' for Montblanc International’s arts and culture charities for two years.

She wore £6m worth of Montblanc diamonds to the 50th Annual Grammy Awards earlier this year, watched carefully by their security staff.

A spokeswoman for the company said Katherine is 'a modern icon of arts and culture, her combination of grace, talent and good looks make Katherine the perfect ambassador for Femme de Montblanc.'

Meanwhile when Katherine performed at Kenwood House last weekend, it wasn't just her powerful voice that wowed the crowd.

The Welsh singer looked stunning in a selection of low cut dresses which revealed her curvy figure.

Although she threatened to spill out of one.

The patriotic 28-year-old also made sure her outfit was complete by draping herself in her home country's flag for one of her classical performances, which was accompanied by the London Philharmonia Orchestra.

Katherine is dating Blue Peter presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Gethin Jones who is also from Wales.

The appreciative crowd included her boyfriend, Blue Peter presenter and Strictly Come Dancing star Gethin Jones, who watched from a deck chair at the outdoor venue.

Katherine was back on stage the following day in a striking canary yellow dress to take part in the official handover of the Beijing Olympic Games to London in front of the flag waving crowds on The Mall outside Buckingham Palace.

The crowd are amazing. They all seem so proud," she said after her performance.

"I've got caught up in the Olympic fever like everyone else, I've been watching it. I've lived in London for 10 years and I'm very excited and proud that we've got it coming here."

She also sent congratulations to fellow countrywoman cyclist Nicole Cooke, who became the second Welsh woman ever to win an Olympic gold medal.

She said: "We're all so proud of you, you're going to get the biggest welcome home.

"It's been brilliant."

After her hectic weekend, Katherine is now preparing to go to Iraq to entertain the troops.

Katherine Jenkins may be Welsh to the core, but that isn't stopping her spreading her wings.

After a year spent renovating a house in North London, the 27-year-old mezzo soprano plans to leave her home town of Neath and make the capital her base.

Katherine, whose Blue Peter presenter boyfriend Gethin Jones also lives in London, has already signed up at her local LA Fitness gym.

"She has made the house fabulous and she'll move in soon," says a source.

"Katherine is building a huge walk-in wardrobe for her stage dresses and is adding a bedroom for her mum to visit."

Strictly Come Dancing star Gethin Jones has found more than his dancing feet on the dance show - it's also found where he found the courage to ask opera diva Katherine Jenkins out, and now the two are dating.

The Welsh pair have been secretly dating since Katherine - who calls herself "The opera Madonna", sang on the show back in October.


And the 27-year-old singer has confirmed the pair are enjoying getting to know one another.

She told The Mirror: "We've been out a few times and we're both Welsh. It's early days, we have known each other a long time."

Gethin, 29, is said to developed an interest in Katherine when she appeared as a guest on his show Blue Peter two years ago. But up until recently did not have the courage to ask her out.



A source said: "They have met a few times in the past and always got on well - but Katherine had been in a steady relationship for years.

"They've met at a few Welsh events and Gethin was pleased when she was invited to watch him dance.

"It was natural that they should have a chat after the show because they are both Welsh and come from similar backgrounds.

The source told the South Wales Evening Post: "Gethin plucked up courage to ask Katherine if she fancied a drink and he was delighted when she accepted.

"The first date went well and they've been to a concert, a few meals and it is going well so far."

Songbird Katherine, who is starring in West End dance show Viva La Diva with ballet dancer Darcey Bussell, split with long-term boyfriend, singer Steve Hart, last year after six years together.

In an twist, Katherine has unwittingly entered the Strictly v X Factor battle as she is set to appear in this week's X Factor on ITV1 while Gethin performs on BBC's Strictly Come Dancing for a place in the final.

Katherine will perform a duet with the show's favourite to win, fellow Welsh singer Rhydian Roberts.

And Gethin may have competition from the peroxide blonde one, as self-confessed virgin Rhydian said he has fancied Katherine "for ages".
